Shelly's Wall Display is a touchscreen that runs the whole smart home from one spot on the wall. The film had to make a control panel feel like part of the room, not a gadget stuck onto it.
The idea
We wrote the script around small domestic moments - the room waking up, the lights changing, the home answering a tap. The display is in every one of them, but the room is what you watch.
Sixty seconds, scene by scene
The film opens without a voice. A dark living room, a clock ticking, a dog barking somewhere outside, the camera pushing in toward the display on the wall. Then the curtains rise, the lights come on, the music starts and the voice-over introduces the product.
From there it moves quickly through what the display does:
- A tap turns on a light. Another tap starts the air conditioning.
- The temperature rises on screen, and the Shelly BLU H&T sensor that comes with the display slides in next to it.
- The home screen gets rearranged, a speaker icon is added, and the film cuts to a real Sonos speaker playing loudly.
- Energy charts move across the display - in the script this part is 'for the geeks'.
- Widgets pop onto the screen one by one: media player, radio, weather.
It ends where it started. Back in the living room, the background fades dark and only the display stays lit. The full script and the storyboard are on the project page.
How it was made
We filmed in a rented apartment, on an empty wall. The Wall Display itself was added in 3D afterwards.
This film was made before AI was part of how we work. Everything here is camera and 3D.
What Shelly received
- One hero film, 60 seconds
- Three social cuts
- Lifestyle images of the product
- Language versions
If your product is hard to film
Some products are still prototypes. Some work behind the wall. Some are just a small box. The approach from this film applies to all of them: film the world around the product for real, and build the product itself in 3D.
